The Scouts’ handball players won the semi-finals of the EHF European Cup tonight after the drama of the sevens. In the return match in the Czech Republic, after the shootout, they won a place among the four best teams.
The winner was decided only in the thirteenth series of sevens, when it was for Scout hit by Mišetićand goalkeeper Knežević saved Nantlu’s attempt.
In the regular part of the match, Karvina won 34:29which nullified the advantage of Scouts from the first game in Ljubuški.
The local handball players opened the match better and canceled it in the tenth minute Scout advantage from the first meeting. With a solid defense and quick goals from the transition, they reached the lead 9:4, while Scout had two exclusions in that period.
Wanting to stop the onslaught of the home team, visiting coach Ivan Džolić reacted with a minute of rest, but even that did not bring the desired breakthrough. The home team continued in the same rhythm and had the goal in the 21st minute the biggest advantage from 17:9.
In those moments, Scout was kept in the game by captain Diano Češko, who scored seven goals.
In the last ten minutes of the first half, the Scouts woke up with a streak of four hits by the 27th minute they halved Karvina’s advantage at 17:13.
In that period, midfielder Amer Šahinović stood out with three consecutive goals and goalkeeper Miloš Knežević with two important saves.
By the end of the half, Vojtech Patzel scored two goals for the home team, and Mile Lasić one for the guests, so the score was 19:14 at the break.
Fahrudin Melić opened the second half with a seven-pointer, which was followed by a period of play “goal for goal” until the 37th minute, when Izviđač, with a series of three goals (Ćeško, Lasić and Odak), along with Knežević’s seven-point save, reached minus two for the first time in the game (21:19).
From the 41st to the 47th minute, the Scouts attack again into a black holewhen the Czech representative went on a streak of five hits to take a more significant advantage of 28:21.
