The best BiH cyclist Lejla Njemčević is competing today in the first race of the new season, at the UCI World Cup Costa Blanca, which is held in Spain.
Competitors are waiting for an extremely demanding course of 82 kilometers with a total of 2,700 meters of ascent. The profile of the race is characterized by short and technically exhausting ascents, technical descents and a very dry surface due to the high temperatures in this part of Spain, Lejla Njemčević’s team announced.
Such conditions make it difficult to control the bike, choose tires and race tactics, which requires maximum concentration from the very start.
The race starts at 8:00 a.m., and the best marathon drivers in the world are expected at the starting line, who will fight for the first points in the new season.
Also, this will also be the first official race for Njemčević on the new Orbea bike. During the winter period BH. the cyclist did a part of her preparations precisely in Spain, where she adapted to similar terrain and climatic conditions as expected in the race itself.
Last season, Njemčević took fourth place in the overall ranking of the World Cup, which once again confirmed the continuity of top results on the international stage. It was the overall fourth year in a row that Bosnia and Herzegovina the competitor took a position in the first five competitors in the general classification of the World Cup. Her goal for the new season is to return to the very top of the overall standings, with a focus on the key races of the World Cup, European and World Championships.
The opening of the season on the Costa Blanca represents an important test of form and an indicator of the state after the preparatory period, while the most important races are expected in June.
