According to the Spanish newspaper AS, talks were held between Zidane and president Florentino Perez at the end of last year, but the epilogue was not what they wanted in Madrid.

Perez wanted Zidane to take over the team and succeed Xabi Alonso, whose departure was already planned, but the Frenchman had other plans.

The key reason for the refusal lies in the fact that Zidane had already committed himself to taking over the French national team after the next World Cup. With that, he made it clear that he is not considering a return to club football at the moment, regardless of the size of the offer.

This decision closed the door to his third term in Madrid, where he had already left a deep mark and won numerous trophies.

After the departure of Xabi Alonso in January, Alvaro Arbeloa took over the team, but the results did not bring significant progress. Real Madrid is currently 11 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, which makes the situation extremely difficult in the fight for the title.

The upcoming El Clasico, which will be played on Sunday at 21:00, could definitely decide the question of the champion. In the event of a draw or defeat, Real could remain without a trophy for the second season in a row, which further increases the pressure on the team and club management.
