Microsoft shares have fallen about 17 percent since the start of the year, amid concerns about risks to its AI business and growing competition from Google’s latest Gemini model and Anthropic’s AI agent Claude Cowork. That wiped out approximately $613 billion from the company’s market value, which stood at about $2.98 trillion on Friday, Reuters reports.
Amazon has lost about 13.85 percent of its value since the start of the year, wiping out about $343 billion in market capitalization, leaving the company worth approximately $2.13 trillion. Earlier this month, Amazon said it expects capital spending to grow by more than 50 percent this year.
Nvidia, Apple, and Alphabet have also seen their market value fall since the start of 2026—by $89.67 billion, $256.44 billion, and $87.96 billion—so their valuations now stand at $4.44 trillion, $3.76 trillion, and $3.7 trillion, respectively.
This decline points to a broader shift in market sentiment, as investors, after years of speculative enthusiasm, increasingly prize long-term AI ambitions and increasingly demand visibility of short-term revenues and profits.
