The Minister of Veteran Affairs of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Adnan Sirovica, today visited demobilized defender Sakib Haseljić, whose family home in Vjetrenice near Zenica was completely destroyed by fire yesterday.
Sakib is a demobilized defender who has been facing serious health problems for years. He suffers from multiple sclerosis and severe heart disease, as a result of which he remains a paraplegic and is completely dependent on the help of others in his daily life. He lives in a joint household with his wife, daughter and two minor grandchildren, and the family earns minimal income. The fire left this multi-member family without a roof over their heads and basic living conditions.
Minister Sirovica told the members of the Haseljić family that they will not be left to their own devices in these difficult times and that this ministry will take all available measures to provide them with concrete help as soon as possible.
– This is not only a material loss – this is a tragedy that hit the family of our demobilized defender, a man who gave his health for this country, and today he is struggling with a serious illness and life’s adversities. It is our human and institutional obligation to be by his side when he needs help the most. The Ministry will urgently initiate all procedures in order to secure funds for the rehabilitation and adaptation of the burnt residential building, and do everything in our power to enable this family to return to their home as soon as possible. In moments like these, solidarity must not be just a word, but a concrete deed – said Minister Sirovica.
The Ministry of Veteran Affairs of the Zenica-Doboj Canton will, in accordance with its competences and available possibilities, undertake urgent activities in order to provide the Haseljić family with the necessary assistance, with the aim of creating conditions for the reconstruction of their home and a dignified continuation of life.
Caring for members of the defense population and their families is one of the fundamental priorities of this ministry, especially in situations where they are faced with difficult life circumstances that require a quick and decisive reaction from institutions.
