This statement followed the Wall Street Journal report according to which the White House considers the lowering of customs customs in Chinese imports to reduce tensions between the two countries.
According to that list, customs in Chinese products could be reduced from the current 145 percent to between 50 and 65 percent, referring to an unnamed official from the White House.
– We will have an honest agreement with China, “Trump told reporters today, but did not comment on specific allegations from the report.
His words come after an optimistic statement given earlier, when he said that it was possible to reach a detail of the duties.
White House spokesman Kush Desai said all the reports of the customs are “pure speculation” if they do not come directly from President Trump.
The levels of the customs listed in the Journal report, according to experts, could be high enough to discourage a significant part of the trade between the two largest world economies.
German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd said on Wednesday that 30 percent of shipment from China was canceled towards the USA.
In fact, China introduced customs duties of 125 percent on American goods, with additional measures.
U.S. Finance Minister Scott Bessent said that both parties consider current customs rates unsustainable, but added that he did not know if negotiations could begin.
