The United Nations Agency for Refugees (UNHCR) plans to close four offices in Mexico due to the “serious financial crisis” facing, said UNHCR official for Reuters.
Two of these offices are located in the southern Mexican cities of Palenque and Tenosique, near the border with Guatemala. Due to the lack of funds, the Agency also fired 190 employees, stated the official.
UNHCR work in Mexico has largely relied on funding from the United States, which was affected by global freezing the funds introduced by President Donald Trump.
