In his speech, Trump praised his economic agenda, claiming that during his first year in office he had made a “once-in-a-generation turnaround.”
He called out Democrats who didn’t stand up to applaud him, saying, “These people are crazy.”
In his address, Trump also referred to Iran, mentioning the American operation last year.
“They have been warned not to try to rebuild their weapons program, but they continue and at this point they are once again pursuing their sinister nuclear ambitions.”
He added that Iran wants to reach a deal to avoid US attacks, but has yet to commit to never developing nuclear weapons.
“My wish is that we solve the problem diplomatically, but one thing is certain. I will never allow the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism, which they undoubtedly are, to get nuclear weapons,” Trump said.
He called for passage of the Save America Act, which would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote in congressional elections.
He criticized Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar, the first Somali woman elected to Congress, after which one of the Democrats left the room. At that moment, Omar exclaimed that “Trump is lying.”
Democratic Senator Al Green was removed from the room shortly before the start of the address after he violently protested the US president.
