Two people were found dead after an avalanche at the Sankt Anton am Arlberg ski resort, reports HINA.
“The victims were pulled from the snow, but it was not possible to save them,” a police spokesman said. Three more people were injured. Authorities initially did not release any details about the identity, age or nationality of the victims.
Earlier, a 42-year-old German skier died in an avalanche in the Tyrolean ski resort of Nauders. The man was skiing off-piste with his 16-year-old son, who survived with serious injuries,” police said. They were trying to cross the north slope when a sheet of snow about 400 meters wide broke off, carrying them about 200 to 300 meters downhill.
In parts of Tyrol, up to 40 centimeters of fresh snow has fallen in recent days. Authorities have warned that the possibility of new avalanches remains high. More than 30 avalanches were recorded in Tyrol on Wednesday alone. Three people died in Tyrol and the neighboring Vorarlberg region.
