Although a final decision on the fate of the Lukavička coking plant should have been made in the previous days, an official statement is still awaited. According to the bankruptcy administrator Almir Bajrić, the decision on shutdown will be announced after January 12.
– We had working meetings and all those meetings still confirm that there will most likely not be a solution – said Bajrić in a statement for “Avaz”.
When asked how certain it is that the final decision will be shutdown, Bajrić replies that it is highly certain that it will be. Ermin Halilović, the president of the “Koksare” trade union organization, agreed with this.
Shopping for little money
Halilović for “Avaz” he says that everything is going towards shutting down the factory, devaluing its assets, so that someone would come and buy it for a small amount of money.
– These are difficult times for “Koksar” workers, especially when it comes to their psychological state – Halilović pointed out.
He said that the worrisome decision of all engineers and workers is that, if it is decided to shut down the coke battery, all of them will quit their jobs collectively.
And while the representatives of the workers are outraged because no one in charge has contacted them, the relevant ministry told “Avaz” that they sincerely hope that the shutdown will not happen.
– This is the fate of more than 500 families and a great loss for the industry as a whole – said Vedran Lakić, Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry for “Avaz”.
They go to the street
Although manager Bajrić told “Avaz” that they have people interested in taking over individual factories in order to save a certain number of people, Halilović pointed out that this is not a solution, that it is a small number of people who would be taken care of in this way, and that the situation in Lukavička coking plant is not like it was in Zenička and that the workers here will end up on the street.
