After the match, Modrić underwent the necessary tests, after which a fracture of the left cheekbone was established, which was successfully repaired on Monday with surgery. The medical service of the Croatian national team has been in constant contact with Milan’s doctors and the Vatreni captain from the first moment, as well as the professional staff headed by coach Zlatko Dalić.
“We are in constant contact with Milan’s medical service, and in coordination with them and in agreement with Luka, we will closely monitor the course of his recovery, and according to past experiences with such injuries, we believe that the captain will be ready to perform at the upcoming World Cup,” said the doctor of the Croatian national team, Dr. Tomislav Vlahovic.
Coach Zlatko Dalić spoke with Modrić and wished him a speedy recovery.
“I spoke with Luka, I wished him a successful operation and, of course, a high-quality and speedy recovery. I am sure that Luka will do everything to be ready for the World Cup, and we will give him maximum support in that. I am sure that the recovery will go according to plan and that Luka, as captain, will lead us to another big competition this summer,” said the Vatrenih coach.
