Speaking exactly four years after tens of thousands of Russian troops entered Ukraine on the orders of President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that fighting continues, but that Moscow remains open to achieving its goals through political and diplomatic means, reports HINA.
“After the direct intervention of the Western European countries and the USA in this conflict, the special military operation de facto turned into a much wider confrontation between Russia and the Western countries whose goal was and still is the destruction of our country,” said the Kremlin spokesman.
Asked whether Moscow believes the conflict can be resolved through negotiations, Peskov replied:
“We continue our efforts towards achieving peace, and our position is very clear and steadfast. Now everything depends on the actions of the Kiev regime”.
Peskov added that he cannot say when and where the next round of negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv will take place, as the agreement on this has yet to be finalized.
“We sincerely hope that this work will continue,” he concluded.
