The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, adopted the Decision on the temporary suspension and temporary reduction of customs rates for the import of new electric, hybrid and CNG/LPG vehicles until 12/31/2026, in accordance with the BiH Customs Tariff Law.
In this way, the abolition of the customs duty on the import of electric cars in BiH is extended, and along with CNG cars that use natural gas, in 2026, LPG-powered cars will also be included in the duty-free import, while reduced customs rates for the import of hybrid vehicles of five percent will still be applied.
The decision refers to the import into Bosnia and Herzegovina of newly manufactured cars that do not have the preferential status of goods from countries with which BiH has concluded agreements on free trade.
Along with concrete financial support for buyers of this type of car, the Council of Ministers of BiH encourages their massive import, which contributes to a healthier environment, as one of the key pillars of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, but also to increasing road safety in BiH.
Since 2022, when the Decision on temporary suspension and temporary reduction of customs rates for the import of new electric and hybrid cars began to be applied, there has been a noticeable continuous growth of duty-free imports, which is confirmed by data from 2022, when 133 certificates were issued compared to 857 in 2024.
At the same time, an increase in income in this sector by almost 650,000 KM in 2023 compared to 2022 was recorded, while in 2024, income increased by 230,000 KM compared to the previous year, the Council of Ministers reported. Factor.
