“FIFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish Football Association for incidents in a friendly match against Egypt,” FIFA said.
Spanish police launched an investigation into the chant last week, Reuters reports.
Spanish winger Lamine Yamal condemned the chants as disrespectful and intolerable in a post on Instagram. It is interesting that the Barcelona player was the only one who refused to greet the fans after the match, which showed what he thought of their behavior.
The Egyptian Football Association also condemned the chants as a completely unacceptable “abhorrent act of racism” and added that the actions of a small group of spectators would not affect the close relationship between the Spanish and Egyptian federations.
