Italian Jannik Sinner, the best tennis player in the ATP rankings, continues to dominate world tennis and very easily won the clay Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the final against German Alexander Zverev.
In just 25 minutes, Sinner won the first set in which he thunderously opened the competition with the German player and in which he led 5-0. Perhaps a better game from Zverev was expected after the first set, but very quickly everything fell apart for the German in the second set as well.
At 1-1, Sinner took the opponent’s serve again, then took the lead 3-1 and he did not make a wrong step until the end of the match.
Sinner beat Zverev for the ninth time in a row, and overall, the 24-year-old Italian improved his record to 10-4 in head-to-head meetings.
He became a Sinner the first tennis player in history to win five Masters 1000 tournaments in a row. The Italian began that streak in Paris at the end of last year, while in 2026 he won Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo before triumphing in Madrid for the first time in his career.
Interestingly, in the previous four Masters 1000 series tournaments, Sinner always defeated Zverev in the semi-final matches. This time he overcame him in the final, writes Hina.
Zverev remains on two Madrid titles, the 29-year-old German won this tournament in 2018 and 2021.
Sinner won the 28th ATP tournament of his careeras well as the fourth this year. With this Sunday’s victory, he has won at least once every Masters 1000 tournament of the year except for the one in Rome, where he will soon play. Zverev remained at 24 titles in his career.
