In Semberija, works are underway on two sections of the future highway Sarajevo – Belgrade – Bijeljina – Brčko and Bijeljina – Rača. While the construction of the section towards Rača is in an advanced stage, a little more than a month ago, work also began on the section towards Brčko.
The future highway passes through a dozen local communities in Semberija, and the works are particularly visible in the area of Velika Obarska, through which both sections pass.
The President of the Velika Obarska Local Community, Predrag Spasojević, says that the intensity of work has increased significantly in recent months.
“In the last few months, we have been satisfied. The intensity of the work is high. They said that it will be completed until Broc, and since I pass that road every day, I can confirm that from Obarska to Brčko District, work is really intensive on the new 17.7-kilometer long section,” Spasojević said.
At the other end of Semberija, in the village of Brodac, the construction of the interchange of the same name is underway, which will represent one of the key traffic hubs on the Bijeljina – Rača section.
The president of the Brodac local community, Vladan Panić, believes that the new highway will contribute to the development of the economy and the opening of new opportunities for local companies.
“Locals have different opinions, but I am convinced that the highway will open up new opportunities for business entities that already operate in this area and encourage new investments. This will facilitate the export of products to the countries of the region and Europe,” said Panić, reports BHRT.
Citizens expect better traffic connections and development of the entire region from the construction of the highway, although some of them believe that the works could be completed faster.
Tomislav Miljević, the responsible manager of works at the company “Integral inženjering”, announced that at the beginning of August, work on the cement stabilization of the route should begin, followed by asphalting.
“At the beginning of August, we will start work on the construction of cement stabilization, so that in the middle of the month we can also start the asphalting. The brackets are currently being installed on the right bridge, while the construction of the mounting brackets for the left bridge is nearing completion,” said Miljević.
At the beginning of July, Serbia approved an additional almost 10 million euros for the continuation of the construction of the highway through Semberija. Zoran Stevanović, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republika Srpska, recently visited the construction sites and said that the works will not be stopped until both sections are completed.
The coming months will show whether the planned dynamics of the works will be respected and when the first kilometers of the highway will be opened to traffic.
