The Special Department for Suppression of Corruption, Organized and Intercantonal Crime of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (POSKOK) took over the Donja Jablanica case in which 19 people died as a result of the floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina in October 2024.
“POSKOK has taken over the Donja Jablanica case. The case will be the absolute priority of this department. The acting federal prosecutor has assigned the case and is familiar with it,” POSKOK announced today.
The investigation into responsibility for the death of 19 people in Donja Jablanica, who died as a result of flooding and being buried by stones from a nearby quarry, was led by the Prosecutor’s Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton. They investigated one legal entity (business company) and four persons due to the existence of grounds for suspicion of committing criminal offenses of abuse of position or authority in conjunction with the criminal offense of serious cases of causing general danger, the criminal offense of environmental pollution and the criminal offense of negligent work in the service.
The fact that POSKOK will take over this case was discussed earlier, and the cantonal prosecutor’s office submitted the documentation a long time ago. However, at the beginning of this year, POSKOK returned the case to the HNK Prosecutor’s Office, for technical reasons.
As POSKOK stated at the time, the return of the case was due to the fact that certain technical deficiencies in the file were observed during the collation of the documentation, which need to be eliminated, and a new, corrected list of files must be made, sorted and the complete case submitted to the Special Department for re-decision.
The HNK Prosecutor’s Office resubmitted the case, technically modified, and POSKOK has now taken over the work on the case of Donja Jablanica, writes Klix.
