On the occasion of commemorating the Day of Veterans of Mostar, May 7, the traditional bicycle race “Path of Salvation” will be held again this year, which has been held for the fifth year in a row organized by the Organizing Committee of the bicycle race.
The bike ride “Path of salvation” will take place May 7 departing at 2 p.m. from the Square of Croatian Giants in Mostar. Participants will drive along the route Mostar – Goranci – Bila – Grabova Draga – Depositwhere a holy mass will be held and the commemoration of Veterans Day will be held.
The traditional bicycle race aims to preserve the memory of “The Way of Salvation”, as well as promoting togetherness, a healthy lifestyle and social connection.
The Day of the defenders of Mostar is celebrated in memory of May 7, 1991when a column of Yugoslav People’s Army tanks was stopped in Polog. That event, in which the bare-handed people of Mostar, Široki Brijeg and surrounding towns stood in front of a military column, is considered an important historical and psychological turning point and an act of resistance that preceded the events of war and the defense of this area.
The “Path of Salvation” played a key role in the city’s survival, and its importance, according to the organizers, should remain permanently recorded and passed on to future generations.
The organizers say that the bicycle race represents a symbol of remembrance, respect and gratitude to all participants of the Homeland War, emphasizing the importance of preserving the historical truth and passing it on to younger generations.
