More than 70 tigers died this month under mysterious circumstances in a tourist park in northern Thailand, the “Bangkok Post” newspaper reported on Friday, reports Anadolia.
The private Tiger Kingdom Chiang Mai park has been closed for two weeks, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the animals’ deaths.
Provincial animal husbandry officials announced that the facility has prohibited any unauthorized entry and has begun complete disinfection of the area, while laboratory tests are being conducted on the tiger carcasses.
According to the media, the deaths began on February 8. The first assumptions focused on raw chicken used for animal feed.
However, the authorities pointed out that the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
The surviving tigers have been moved to an animal care center in Mae Taeng District, where they are under increased surveillance.
Kritsayarm Kongsatri, director of the Regional Office for Protected Areas, said the loss of so many animals in such a short period of time is very unusual.
