German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was wrong that he did not attend Russia’s talks and Ukraine in Istanbul and promised to introduce new sanctions Moscow.
Talks start on Friday and are the first time that the infected foreign led direct talks at any level shortly after Moscow launched invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Putin rejected the conversations and sent the Russian low-level delegation to attend him.
German Chancellor promised a new package of sanctions against Moscow due to Putin’s decreases. “The fact that President was greening in Turkey, despite that is a huge gesture. Putin did not show up – and that put it in the wrong morning,” Merz written on XU.
“The new sanction package is ready. We will adopt it in Brussels on Tuesday,” he added.
Other European leaders similarly imposed sharp remarks on Putin’s decision not to attend. Speaking during his visit to Albania on Thursday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Moscow “stands in the way to peace”.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, speaking Thursday from the Turkish coastal town of Antalya, said that in front of Ukraine “awaits” the Putin “empty chair,” Reuters conveyed.
