Lindsey Vonn has spoken out about retirement after her horrific fall at the Olympics
Lindsey Vonn (41), one of the greatest skiers of all time, is going through one of the most difficult moments in life and sports. After a terrible injury suffered at the Olympic Games, the legendary American spoke openly about everything she is going through and admitted that she is currently in the phase of mere survival.

Her return to skiing after six years of retirement should have been a great sports story, but instead of a new rise, a serious injury arrived that completely changed all plans. Lindsey Vonn (41) suffered a complex fracture of the tibia and damage to the tibial plateau after a terrible fall, and her nightmare did not stop there.

Due to the severity of the injury she also developed a serious complication – compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition in which accumulated blood creates strong pressure and endangers muscles, nerves and tendons. The pain she felt, as she herself described, was incomparably worse than anything she had experienced before.

The situation was so serious that she also mentioned amputation as a real possibility. Lindsey Vonn later openly admitted that her life was saved by the timely reaction of doctors, and eight demanding operations were left behind.

After the first procedures in Italy, there was a return to the USA and the beginning long, exhausting recovery. She spent months in a wheelchair and on crutches, and predictions say that the bone healing itself will take about a year, he writes. Tportal.hr.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Lindsey Vonn did not hide how difficult it is for her and how open everything is at the moment.

JI just don’t want to jump to conclusions or even speculate about what I might do, Vonn said, adding:

Maybe I’ll retire. I may never race again and that would be perfectly fine, but I am not emotionally in a position to make that decision at this time.

Those words best show how much it is her situation is both physically and emotionally exhausting. Before Lindsey Vonn is not only a fight to return to sports, but above all a fight to return to a normal life without constant pain and limitations.

She further explained how long the entire process could take.

After my ACL is repaired, that’s another six months, so yeah I have at least a year and a half ahead of me before I can really get back to 100 percent shapeeven just training in the gym, reveals Vonn.

Lindsey Vonn is currently recovering at her home in Park City, Utah, where she has slowly begun the first stages of rehab. She also published videos showing her doing strength and mobility exercises it tries to prevent additional muscle atrophy.

After months spent in a wheelchair, she has only now begun to cautiously strengthen her leg so that she can walk independently again. This speaks volumes for how long the road to full recovery still has.

No matter what, Vonn tries to hold on determination and defiance that followed her throughout her career.

‘No matter how hard I fall, I will always find a way to get back up,’ he says optimistically.

But at this moment, one thing is clear – Lindsey Vonn is not facing a return to the snow, but a long and uncertain battle for health.
