Documents released Friday by the US Department of Justice show that Elon Musk corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein in late 2013 to coordinate a possible visit to Epstein’s Caribbean island.
Musk previously claimed that he rebuffed Epstein’s attempts to persuade him to visit one of the two islands Epstein owned – Great St. James and Little St. James – US Virgin Islands, near the British Virgin Islands. Little St Island James was at the center of Epstein’s decades-long abuse of girls and young women.
On December 13, 2013, Musk emailed Epstein: “I will be in the BVI/St Bart’s area over the holidays. Is there a good time to visit?”
Epstein responded two days later and suggested starting the new year, adding, “There’s always room for you.” On Christmas Day, Epstein wrote another email: “The 2nd or 3rd would be perfect. I’ll come get you.”
Musk first replied that he would have to fly back to Los Angeles on January 2, before saying he could move the departure up a day.
– When should we leave for your island on January 2nd? Musk asked Epstein.
Representatives for Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the new emails.
It’s not clear from the emails whether Musk ended up visiting the island. However, the correspondence shows a level of communication between the two men previously unknown, and comes despite Musk’s claims that he was trying to discredit his opponents by linking them to Epstein.
During their public spat last year, Musk suggested that President Donald Trump had slowed the release of Epstein’s documents because his name was mentioned in them. In September, after Musk’s name was included in a new batch of documents, he publicly distanced himself from the convicted sex offender, claiming in a post on X: “Epstein tried to talk me into going to his island and I refused.”
