The captain of the Colombian national football team, James Rodriguez, who played preparatory matches with Croatia and France in recent days, ended up in the hospital due to dehydration, the Colombian Football Association announced on Thursday.
The 34-year-old midfielder was admitted to a hospital in Minnesota, USA, after returning there from the national team meeting.
The day after the game against France he showed signs of severe dehydration which required his hospitalization during the last 72 hours, the association of that South American country reported.
Rodriguez is under the care of doctors and is making a successful recovery.
It is important to say that this situation not associated with musculoskeletal injuries nor is it related to the development of his football activitiesthe alliance stated.
On Sunday in Washington, he played 63 minutes in a 1-3 loss to France. Two days earlier, in the American city of Orlando, he spent 63 minutes on the field in a 1-2 loss against Croatia.
Rodriguez appeared in those games after playing just 39 minutes in two games for American club Minnesota United earlier this month. Before that, he took a break for four months after leaving Mexico’s Club Leon.
Colombia is in the USA prepared for the World Championship which starts in the USA, Canada and Mexico in two months. Rodriguez, with 124 appearances and 31 goals for Colombia, is still an important player of that national team.
Before his appearance against Croatia, coach Nestor Lorenzo had declared that he was fit.
