Indestructible Lindsey Vonn: Recently almost lost her leg, now she’s back skiing

The 41-year-old American survived a real horror during a downhill in Cortina in February, when she suffered a compound fracture of her left leg that almost left her without a limb.

So far, she has undergone eight surgeries, and another one is expected to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the same knee.

Although her father, Alan Kildrow, has publicly stated that Lindsey will no longer compete while he’s wondering, the legendary skier quickly “quenched” his hopes.

Speaking on CBS Mornings, Vonn said that her father was too hasty with his statements.

– He already knows by now that if you tell me not to do something, I will do it, said Vonn, emphasizing that her passion for the mountains and skiing is indestructible, regardless of whether she will compete again.

Vonn had been preparing for the Cortina Games for a full six years, and the accident happened just seconds after the start of the race. Up until that point, she was leading the World Cup downhill standings. After the crash, she was airlifted to a hospital where she underwent three emergency surgeries before she could even return to the United States.

Although she admits that she probably would have ended her career if she had been able to successfully bring the comeback season to an end, this scenario clearly does not allow her to retire peacefully.

Three months after the catastrophic accident, the recovery process is progressing, and Lindsey Vonn proves once again why she is considered one of the toughest athletes in history.
