The seventh Sarajevo Marathon powered by Cedevita is taking place today and tomorrow.
It is the largest marathon event in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
– Kids run was held today – I run, enjoy, recycle powered by Eko život. These are children’s races, in which around 370 children participated this morning – said Feni Darko Lončar, president of the Boys in Blue Association.
He pointed out that the Carlsberg Beer Mile race will be held today, which starts at 5:30 p.m., after which a concert will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the stage of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo. Lončar invited citizens to come to the event and concert.
All of today’s activities are taking place on Wilson’s Promenade and will not result in a change in traffic patterns.
On Sunday, April 26, from 8:00 a.m., the main event will be held – a marathon race of 42,195 kilometers, which is also the BiH Marathon Championship, and Nutrino-vih21K – half marathon and Osman Junuzović Memorial Race 5K powered by Fine food.
Around 2,600 competitors from 47 countries are expected on the streets of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, which is a new record for the number of participants and the number of countries that have their representatives.
The Boys in Blue Association apologized to the citizens of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo for the temporary, partial suspension of traffic that will last on Sunday, April 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Traffic on the main city road in the direction of Marijin dvor – Ilidža should be normalized by 9:40 a.m. In the section that passes through the municipality of Istocna Ilidža in the period from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., traffic will take place alternately in one lane. They invited the citizens of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo to take to the streets and support the runners.
Race route: the start of the race is at the Wilson Promenade near the Ars Aevi Bridge and continues across the Suada and Olga Bridges, Grbavička, Ivice Osima Boulevard, AS Roundabout, Topal Osman Paše – Wilson Promenade – Vrbanja – Zmaja od Bosne – Meša Selimović Boulevard – Džemal Bijedića – Ilidža Road – Blažujski Road – Vrelo Bosne – Stojčevac – Velika Aleja – Hrasnička Cesta – Famosa Road – 4th August – Second Sarajevo Brigade – Vasilija Grđić – Kurt Schorka – Vahide Maglajlić – Bulevar Mimar Sinan – Plavi put – Želimir Vidović Kelija – Šejh Husein Bakri Gazaz – Safet Hadzić – Bulevar Ivice Osima, roundabout AS, Topal Osman paše – Vilsonovo promenade.
About 250 security guards, members of the KS MUP, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the GSS Sarajevo will take care of the safety of the participants.
The Boys in Blue Association points out that this event represents more than a sports competition. It promotes a healthy lifestyle as well as positive values that we should all cherish together. This time, as well as many times before, Sarajevo will show that it is a city of sports, energy, tourism and great hospitality.
