Answering a journalist’s question about the possibilities of Iranian-American cooperation in the energy sector, Paknejad briefly said that everything is possible, but added that for now there are no clear indicators that concrete realization will actually occur.
Back in mid-February, the envoy for economic diplomacy at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hamid Ghanbari, stated that common interests in the field of oil and gas, investments in mineral resources, and even the purchase of airplanes are part of the talks with the United States of America.
According to the Reuters agency, a high-ranking Iranian official who wished to remain anonymous said that as part of the negotiations, Tehran offered American companies participation in large-scale oil and gas exploitation projects.
As he emphasized, Washington was offered serious investment opportunities and concrete interests in the Iranian energy sector through the economic package.
However, he emphasized that Iran will not relinquish control over its oil and mineral resources.
According to him, the United States of America can only play the role of an economic partner, while American companies could participate in projects as subcontractors.
The second round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US was held on February 17 in Geneva. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi assessed that the talks took place in a serious atmosphere and that they were more constructive than the first meeting.
The third round of negotiations is planned for three days, also in Geneva, and this information was confirmed by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.
