According to the ARD public service report, as many as 84.6 percent of the Members of the SPD voted to enter the coalition during the internal online voting concluded last night.
The participation in the voting was 56 percent, which is significantly above the required minimum threshold of 20 percent, which has become the result of binding on the party leadership. The SPD, which the left center, had a deadline until Tuesday at 23:59 to vote around the Areaalition Agreement. The Christian-Democratic Union (CDU), led by Friedrich Merz, has already voted support for this plan, while her nursing party from Bavaria, the Christian-Social Union (CSU) was earlier this month.
Now that all parties have given consent, the signing of the coalition agreement is scheduled for Monday in Berlin. The federal parliament will 6. May vote on the choice of Merza for the Chancellor, which will officially inherit Olafa Scholz.
At the early elections held in February, the CDU / CSU won 28.5 percent of the vote, but did not reach the absolute majority. Together, the two parties have 328 seats in the Bundestag – much more than the required 316 for the majority.
Friedrich Merz has already appointed candidates from his party for key ministerial places. Johann WadePhul takes over the function of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, inheriting the Green Annen Baerbock.
Alexander Dobrindt from CSU was nominated for the Minister of Internal Affairs, while the management of a stumbling German economy will be entrusted to Katherini Reiche, the executive director of Westenergie, Energy Giant E.ON. The names of the candidates from the ranks of the SPD have not yet been published.
