Consumer prices in Bosnia and Herzegovina continued to grow during December 2025. According to the data of the BiH Agency for Statistics, compared to November of the same year, prices were on average higher by 0.1 percent, while on an annual level, compared to December 2024, inflation of 4.1 percent was recorded.
On a monthly basis, price increases were recorded in several categories. In December, food and non-alcoholic beverages were more expensive by 0.2 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.3 percent, while the cost of housing and utilities increased by 0.7 percent. Price growth was also recorded in the restaurant and hotel sectors, where the increase amounted to 0.4 percent, as well as in other goods and services, also by 0.4 percent. At the same time, the prices of clothing and footwear fell by two percent, while transportation became cheaper by 0.6 percent.
Annual comparisons show more pronounced price increases in almost all consumer categories. The highest growth was recorded in restaurants and hotels, where prices were higher by 7.8 percent, and in housing and overhead expenses, which increased by 7.3 percent. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are more expensive by 5.3 percent, recreation and culture by 4.9 percent, healthcare by 4.7 percent, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco are up by 4.1 percent. The prices of education increased by 3.1 percent, furniture, household appliances and regular household maintenance by 2.4 percent, and communication by 1.5 percent. At the same time, clothing and footwear recorded a 7.8 percent drop in prices on an annual basis, while transportation was cheaper by 0.2 percent.
As a reminder, during the year 2024, the prices of food and beverages in Bosnia and Herzegovina increased by 7.8 percent, which is clearly reflected in the longer-term trends in the prices of basic foodstuffs.
Price comparison from 2023
Meat, milk and dairy products, as well as bread, stand out among the products that have experienced the most significant price growth in the last three years. Thus, the price of a kilogram of beef shoulder in 2023 was 15.45 KM, and in 2024 it increased to 19.45 KM, while in 2025, a kilogram of boneless beef shoulder reached a price of around 27 KM. Chicken fillet cost 12 KM per kilogram in 2023, around 14 KM in 2024, while in 2025 it was sold at prices between 15 and 16 KM.
Significant growth was also recorded in dairy products. A kilogram of hard cheese cost 10.95 KM in 2023, 12.45 KM a year later, while in 2025 the price ranged between 15.95 and 16.95 KM. A liter of milk went from a range of 1.60 to 1.70 KM in 2023, increased to around 2 KM in 2024, and in 2025 it reached a price of 2.40 KM.
Changes were also recorded in other basic products. A kilogram of round grain rice cost 3.20 KM in 2023, 3.95 KM in 2024, while in 2025 the packages are reduced to 800 grams, and prices range between 3.50 and 4.10 KM. The price of 800 grams of salami increased from 3.65 KM in 2023 to 4.50 KM in 2024, while in 2025, the same product costs about 5.85 KM. Hot dogs of 300 grams increased in price from 2.75 KM in 2023 to 3.30 KM in 2024, while their price in 2025 was around 3.80 KM.
After a marked increase during 2024, 200 gram butter recorded a slight decrease in price in 2025. Namely, the price of this product in 2023 was 5.25 KM, in 2024 it reached 8.60 KM, while in 2025 it was sold at a price of around 6.95 KM.
The increase in the price of coffee stands out in particular. Half a kilogram of coffee in 2023 cost 8.60 KM, in 2024 it cost about 9 KM, while in 2025 it was necessary to allocate up to 15 KM for the same quantity. A similar trend is observed in chocolate products. 100 grams of chocolate cost 1.95 KM in 2023, about 2.10 KM in 2024, while in 2025 the packaging was reduced to 80 grams at a price of 2.20 KM, while the price of 100 grams of chocolate was about 2.50 KM, it says.
