After 15 years of successful organization of the Oase Sports Games, the event enters a new development phase through integration into the program of national inclusive games of the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which continues and further develops the legacy of this important sports competition. With this step forward, the National Inclusive Games of the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina become the largest platform of inclusive sports and social leadership in Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the new format, the event will be organized as part of the National Inclusive Games of the BiH Special Olympics, which unite sports, education and social dialogue on inclusion. This year, a special focus will be placed on the family as a key pillar of support for athletes, as well as on the empowerment of young women leaders in the inclusion movement, which further expands the impact of this event.
The Oaza Sports Games were launched in 2010 at the initiative of the Association “Oaza” with the support of the partner organization FIFH Malmo from Sweden, inspired by the long-standing international competition “Malmo Open”. Over the past fifteen years, this event has grown into one of the largest regional sports competitions for people with intellectual disabilities.
More than 15,000 athletes, coaches, volunteers and partners participated in this program, while teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Italy, Sweden, Germany and Saudi Arabia took part in the competitions. On the other hand, the National Inclusive Games, held for the first time last year, gathered more than 1,500 participants.
Recognizing the importance of this event and its contribution to the development of inclusive sports, the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina takes over the coordination of the organization of the competition, ensuring the continuity of its mission and further development within the national inclusive sports program.
The central part of the manifestation consists of sports competitions in several disciplines, while the program additionally includes the Summit of Young Leaders, a platform that gathers representatives of institutions, international organizations, civil society and young leaders from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through the combination of the tradition of the Oase Sports Games and the institutional framework of the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo continues to build a space in which sport becomes a powerful tool for social transformation, solidarity and equal opportunities for all. The organizers point out that this event is not just a sports competition, but a movement that promotes the values of dignity, respect and togetherness.
