Beekeepers across Bosnia and Herzegovina face catastrophic losses of bee societies. The cause of mass dug is not yet known, and the consequences could be reflected in the ecosystem and domestic food production. Only in the area of Semberija and Majevica, losses reach up to 90 percent.
Currently, the exact cause of the mass dying of bees is not known. Beekeepers suspect the use of pesticides, climate change, but also possible viral or parasitic infections, writes FTV.
– There is reason for great care, so far I have lost a very small number of societies over the winter, and this year he went 15-20%, although I took care. As for Semberia and Majevice, I think the losses reach up to 90%. There is probably something in nature, perhaps some virus, but it is illogical to suffer such a large number – says Beekeeper Simeunović.
Last year, beekeepers say, was one of the worst. Many hives survived only thanks to the sail. This season doesn’t promise a better outcome either. Similar cases were recorded across Europe and the world, and the UN was back in 2019. warned that almost 35 percent of pollinators are globally in danger of extinction.
– The losses are in the surrounding countries – Croatia, Serbia even Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria – are all at a loss. I think even in America has a lot of losses. There is a possibility that something from nature, air, maybe a virus may appear – says Simeunović.
– The most famous entomologists from the Faculty of Washington are trying to find the samples of this phenomenon, but it is still not known.
