Harris told Sky News that trust would take “years, if not decades” to rebuild. According to him, Trump must now convince the American public that his economic agenda is delivering results, especially considering that the midterm elections are being held in November.
“But he has a pretty serious economic problem and only about six months to solve it,” said Harris.
His remarks come a day after the United States Supreme Court ruled in a narrow 6-3 decision that Trump does not have the authority to impose global tariffs without the consent of Congress, declaring earlier emergency tariffs illegal.
Shortly after the ruling, Trump announced he was imposing a new global tariff of 10 percent, only to increase it to 15 percent today, citing other legal grounds and saying the measure would take effect immediately.
This decision has further agitated the political and economic scene in the United States of America, while analysts warn of possible long-term consequences for the country’s international reputation and trade relations.
