Germany’s Alexander Zverev, ranked third in the world, advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters 1000 by beating Brazil’s Joao Fonseca 7-5, 6-7 (3/7), 6-3.
The 28-year-old from Hamburg will play his third semi-final in the Principality after 2018 and 2022.
For the passage to the final, he will face either the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime or the Italian Jannik Sinner, Zverev’s great rival who defeated him in the semifinals in Indian Wells and Miami.
Zverev barely won the first set against the 19-year-old Brazilian, who lost 1-3 in the second set, then came back with four games in a row and finally equalized in sets in the “tie-break”. In the last set, the Brazilian lost two serves at 2-3 and the third tennis player in the world won.
