In an emergency letter, which have jointly signed several parliamentary groups, which is available to the ARD study in Brussels, European Parliamentarians require that Hungary finally abolishes all funds from the European Union funds.
The sanctions so far, they state, did not give results.
It is a very clear call of the EP representative addressed to the European Commission with the aim of increasing pressure on Hungary.
Representatives of democracy, social democrates, liberals and green wants Viktor Orbán’s government finally folded, says European politician Moritz Körner, member of the German Liberal Party (FDP).
“Who does not care about respecting the EU value, does not deserve a single euro from the EU budget,” he said.
As the green Europarthamarac Daniel Freund says, it is about the protection of EU financial interests, and thus European taxpayers, in accordance with applicable legal regulations. Freund initiated this letter and is valid for one of the most important advocates of the rule of law in the European Parliament.
Due to widespread corruption in Hungary and lack of independent justice, in recent years, billions of euros from Brussels, which were supposed to be remitted to that country, frozen.
“However, we see that in the past two and a half years, since the sanctions in force, the situation in the field did not improve”, says Freund.
On the contrary, as he states, “New attacks on the week are recorded on the independent judiciary, civil society, free media and freedom of expression. And now very, we say very clearly: it must come by the end.”
Encouraged by the support of the American President Trump, Viktor Orban is increasingly proceeding against minorities and non-governmental organizations.
Thus, his government brought the law in mid-March the law that drastically restricts the freedom of gatherings and prohibits the parade of pride planned for June, on which participants, among other things, are committed to the rights of homosexual, bisexual and transgender persons.
A few days ago, the Hungarian government further tightened measures against non-governmental organizations, which considers the threat to the sovereignty of the country.
Thus, Victor Orbán’s government enabled NGOs to be put on the blacklist, if necessary they sanction, and to limit their funds.
