The Cardinal Mykola byčok became the youngest bishop assigned to the cardinal status in December last year – at the age of 44.
Born in Ukraine in 1980, Byčok served in various positions within the church, among other things as a missionary in Russia, then as a parish in Ukraine, the Cardinal Cordinal’s report is stated. “He was a man of simple piety that was trying to bring the church closer to people,” he wrote the Byčok.
He pointed out that Pope Franjo continued the work of his predecessor Benedict XVI. In the fight against sexual abuse within the church, but also added that this work is even far from completed.
“Papa Franjo told the survivors of abuse and simplified the procedures for punishing the perpetrator. He began to introduce the culture of protection of the most vulnerable. This work must continue in the future,” he wrote.
