Faced with challenges from China and the United States, Brussels and New Delhi are seeking closer ties, resulting in a pact to be unveiled in the Indian capital on Tuesday.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, who were feted as guests of honor at India’s Republic Day parade on Monday, will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the summit.
– Negotiations at the official level are being resolved and both sides are ready to announce the successful conclusion of the talks at the summit on Tuesday – Indian Commerce Minister Rajesh Agrawal told AFP.
The EU has seen India – the world’s most populous country – as an important market for the future, while New Delhi sees the European bloc as an important source of much-needed technology and investment to rapidly upgrade its infrastructure and create millions of new jobs.
