Syrian Kurdish leader Mazloum Abdi said Thursday that the violence in Aleppo is undermining talks with the government in Damascus, as implementation of an agreement reached last year to integrate Kurdish forces into the country’s central government has stalled.
– The deployment of tanks and artillery in the neighborhoods of Aleppo, the bombing and displacement of unarmed civilians, and the attempts to invade Kurdish neighborhoods during the negotiation process undermine the chances of reaching an agreement – Abdi said in a statement.
Abdi, who heads the US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), visited Damascus on Sunday for talks on implementing the March accord, but state media said the talks had produced no tangible results, Reuters reported.
