Today, the Ver.di trade union launched warning strikes in public transport across Germany, as a result of which buses, trams and trains remained at the depot, and passengers had to look for alternative transport, “Spiegel” announced.
The strike began early this morning in the biggest cities, including Berlin, and will last until Saturday in most regions.
The exception is Lower Saxony, where strikes are not allowed or do not include city railways.
In some cities, such as Bremen and Saxony-Anhalt, the strikes will last until Sunday, reports Tanjug.
Ver.di demands better working conditions, including shorter shifts, longer rest periods and higher bonuses for night and weekend work.
Employers criticize the strikes as “harmful to passengers” and state that the negotiations have so far not led to an agreement.
This is the second major industrial action in ongoing public transport wage negotiations this year.
