Spanish authorities, in cooperation with Europol, arrested 48 people and seized almost four tons of cocaine in the operation of breaking the largest criminal gang on the Canary Islands, Europol announced.
In addition to the 3-ton cocaine from South America, the authorities also performed 29 hearings and seized 69 more vehicles, six properties and 100,000 euros in cash.
In the europol statement, it is stated that the gang imported cocaine from South America to the European Union using sophisticated maritime infrastructure.
The gang possessed 11 speedboats, which were repeatedly used, starting with strategic points in the Atlantic Ocean to the parent ship carried by cocaine.
After loading drugs in speedboats, the suspect would leave her on the Canary Islands, ready for distribution, transmits Euronews.
In addition, the criminal network used a complex encrypted communication system to avoid arrest, including the use of satellite terminals, ie telephone that is difficult to follow, is added to the statement.
