According to him, the European Union should not take over issues of collective security, because that responsibility should remain exclusively within the competence of NATO.
He believes that the existence of two parallel command systems cannot ensure effective defense.
Kalinak also warned that the formation of a joint European army would represent a serious step towards the federalization of Europe.
“Either we are part of NATO and then we don’t need such an army, or we are in Europe,” said the Slovak minister.
He repeated the position that Ukraine will never become a member of NATO, adding that it will face serious obstacles on the way to membership in the European Union.
Speaking about the so-called “coalition of the willing”, Kalinak stated that it has not done anything concrete so far.
“Did they send any soldiers? They didn’t. Of course they didn’t,” he said, adding that, in his opinion, Ukraine had a chance to end the war as early as 2022.
