JP Autoceste FBiH published a public advertisement for the acquisition of real estate by agreement, which practically started the process of purchasing land for the construction of the Adriatic-Ionian highway in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The ad refers to the section Počitelj – Stolac, which is the first and most ready for construction on this large infrastructure project, it says BiznisInfo.ba. Let us remind you that this is a highway whose construction the American giant Bechtel is interested in.
First part Počitelj – Stolac, about 23 kilometers long
It is about a 23.5-kilometer long section, for which the preparatory documentation went the farthest. This is precisely why this section will be the first to be built, while other sections of the Adriatic-Ionian highway are in the earlier stages of preparation.
It is important to emphasize that preparations for this road have been going on for years and are not directly related to the latest interest of large international contractors, although, as it now appears, the American company Bechtel appeared at a crucial moment.
Where does the new highway go?
BiznisInfo.ba reminds us that this is a highway that would separate from Corridor 5C near Počitelje. While Corridor 5C would continue towards Ploče, the Adriatic-Ionian highway would lead towards Stolac and then further towards the border with Montenegro.
The total planned length of the Adriatic-Ionian highway through Bosnia and Herzegovina is about 103 kilometers. The route, according to the conceptual solution, starts at the Počitelj interregional junction, where it connects with the highway on Corridor 5C, and ends at the border with Montenegro.
Part of the great European corridor
The Adriatic-Ionian Corridor includes several modes of transport – road, sea, air, and partially also rail. Its most important segment is precisely the Adriatic-Ionian highway, which should connect: Trieste – Rijeka – Split – Ploče – Trebinje/Dubrovnik – Podgorica – Albania – Greece.
This would give Bosnia and Herzegovina a strategic traffic route that directly connects it with the Adriatic and Ionian areas.
Technical characteristics of the first section
The Stolac section – Počitelj regional node was designed with:
- two separate carriageways
- four traffic lanes (two in each direction)
- stop bar
- dividing strip between roadways
Call to property owners
Based on the earlier decision of the Government of FBiH, the public interest in the construction of this section was determined, and the procedure of consensual expropriation was initiated with the payment of fees prescribed by law.
Property owners in the area are invited:
- City of Capljina (Sevaš Njive, Počitelj, Domanovići, Hotanj, Opličići)
- Town of Stolac (Prenj, Bjelojevići, Burmazi, Kruševo)
The owners can report to the premises of JP Autocesta FBiH in Mostar and Sarajevo, and if they do not respond within the time limit, the expropriation procedure will continue in accordance with the law.
A concrete step towards construction
The publication of this ad represents a concrete step towards the construction of the Adriatic-Ionian highway in BiH, a project that has been talked about for years, and which in the coming period could become one of the most important construction sites in the country.
If the land acquisition process goes smoothly, the construction of the first section could begin much faster than previously expected.
