Papa’s legacy of peace continues to shine in our world filled with conflicts.
The closeness he showed towards the most vulnerable during his earthly mission is radiating even after his death, and this is the latest surprise not exception: his papomobil, the same vehicle from which he waved the believers around the world.
It was his last wish for people he showed so much solidarity during his pontificate, especially in recent years. In his last months, the Pope entrusted the CARITAS Jerusalem initiative, trying to answer the difficult humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where almost a million children were displaced.
In the middle of the horrible war, destroyed infrastructure, mutilated health system and lack of education, children are the first to pay the price, and hunger, infections and other conditions that can be prevented their lives in danger.
Papa Franjo often stated that “children were not numbers. They are facial. Names. Stories. And everyone is sacred,” and with this last gift, his words became acts.
Priscumed papomobil is equipment equipment for diagnostic, review and treatment – including fast tests for infections, diagnostic instruments, wars, sewing and other equipment that saves lives. It will work doctors and medics, and will arrive to children in the most insolent parts of the gauze when a humanitarian access to the belt is renovated.
In the public announcement, Peter Brune, the Secretary-General of Caritas Sweden, wrote that “with this vehicle we will be able to reach children who do not have access to health care – children who are injured and malnourished.”
“This is a concrete intervention that saves lives at a time when the health system in the tread is almost completely collapsed,” he added.
A call that never forgets
Caritas Jerusalem, who has long served the communities gauze in difficult conditions, leads the efforts on the field. With over a hundred members of staff dedicated to the provision of health care, the organization now builds on the Pope’s inheritance and strength inheritance, while at the same time it brings his last blessing to the people of Gaza.
“This vehicle represents love, care and the closeness of Pope Franjo, in the most endangered, which he expressed throughout the crisis,” Anton Asfar, the Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem.
In photographs published within the project, the vehicle seems to be carefully adapted to the needs of those who need it most.
But “It’s not just a vehicle,” Brune said. “It’s a message that the world didn’t forget the children in Gaza.” And that is also the call: to remember the rest of the world.
