According to the survey results, support for Fidesz is falling, while Tisza is growing despite the measures announced by the government after several years of economic stagnation. The Tisza party is led by Péter Magyar, a former top official, and among committed voters it now has a 20 percentage point advantage – 55 percent of support, compared to 35 percent for Fidesz. In January, the difference was 12 points, reports Index.
When the total electorate is taken into account, Tisza is supported by 42 percent of respondents, while Fidesz has 31 percent. The survey was conducted from February 18 to 23.
Apart from these two parties, only the far-right party Naša domovina (Mi Hazánk) exceeds the electoral threshold of five percent, with support of six percent among determined voters.
Although most polls show the advantage of Tisza, Fidesz refers to surveys that give them a better chance, while the opposition claims that such polls are linked to circles close to the government.
At a rally in Šimeg last week, Orbán said that Fidesz could win between 65 and 70 out of a total of 106 direct constituencies, which, despite the drop compared to the previous election, could be enough for them to stay in power.
The Hungarian Parliament has 199 representatives – 93 are elected from party lists, and 106 are elected directly in constituencies.
