Tara Moore’s career was practically destroyed by one positive finding. At the end of 2023, the British tennis player was temporarily suspended for boldenone, and she was threatened with a four-year ban.
She lost sponsors, income and reputation, and today, a year and a half later, an independent commission has confirmed that she is not guilty.
Moore claimed from the beginning that the positive result was due to contaminated meat she consumed during the WTA tournament in Bogota in 2022, and she was right. It was proven that it was food contamination and not doping.
It is particularly controversial that, unlike the tournament in Mexico of the same season, where the players were explicitly warned that red meat could cause a false positive test, there was no such warning in Bogota, and that is exactly what Moore is now building his case on, reports Gol.
The British tennis player is launching a civil lawsuit worth as much as 20 million dollars. She believes that if the WTA had clearly warned about the risks, she would have avoided the consumption of the questionable meal, and even the entire drama that characterized her career.
Interestingly, her strategy relies on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which concluded that the athlete is ultimately responsible for what she puts into her body. Moore claims that, with adequate warning from the organizers, she would have acted differently.
