In 2024. A total of 1.78 billion eggs were sold, which is 5.7 percent more than a year earlier, writes Swissinfo.
It is more than during the time of the corona virus, when the consumption of this groceries was record, according to the FOAG.
The increase in consumption can be partially explained by demographic growth, as it is 2023. until 2024. The number of Switzerland inhabitants increased by 0.9 percent.
Increased egg sales, however, it is attributed mainly to the increase in general consumption per capita.
Every resident of Switzerland, which has a population of nine million, has been consumed by 197.7 eggs on average.
At the same time, the FOAG announced that the domestic production of this food increased by 2.8 percent last year, to 1.12 billion eggs.
As stated, the share of organic eggs in production is also increased.
Domestic production, however, is not sufficient to cover demand, so that it can satisfy 62.5 percent of demand, while the rest is imported, mostly from the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France.
