The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policy has announced that orders have been issued for the payment of benefits to caring parents for January 2026, in the total amount of 3,431,111.71 KM.
The Ministry stated that the monthly allowance for caring parents has been increased from the current 619 KM to 1,027 KM, and that a total of 59 million KM is planned for this purpose in the Budget for 2026. This is an increase of 41.5 million KM compared to 2022, which, as they point out, confirms the state’s long-term commitment to stronger support for parents and guardians who take care of people with the most severe forms of disability.
In parallel with the increase in financial allocations, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policy is also working on improving the legal framework through amendments to the Act on Caring Parents. These amendments standardize the concept and status of parent caregivers, expand the circle of relatives who can exercise that right, equalize the rights of married and non-marital partners, and eliminate discrimination based on the cause of disability.
In addition, the amendments to the Law enable the maintenance of the status of parent caregiver in cases where children attend preschool or educational institutions, regardless of the number of hours spent in those institutions. The procedure of medical expertise is also simplified, and a unique electronic database is introduced with the aim of greater transparency and efficiency in payments.
