Mircea Lucescu, the famous Romanian coach and former captain of the national team, has died.
He died on Tuesday at the age of 80. Lucescu ended up in the hospital on Sunday, March 29, after he got sick during the training of the Romanian national team.
It was three days after his national team was knocked out of the World Cup qualifiers by Turkey.
It’s Lucescu’s stepped down from the position of selector. Doctors determined that he had a heart problem, and five days after he ended up in the hospital, he had a heart attack and was put into an induced coma. Soon after, his body stopped responding to the medication and he died.

Lucescu captained Romania at the 1970 World Cup in Brazil, and was also a coach at their debut appearance at the 1984 European Championship. During his long career, he managed numerous clubs in Italy, Turkey, Ukraine and Russia, and was also coach of the Turkish national team.
