The Ministry of Veteran Affairs of the Zenica-Doboj Canton in the period from 2022 to 2025 records a strong and continuous growth of budget allocations and includes beneficiaries, confirming the commitment of the ZDK Government for systematic and responsible care of the veteran population.
The Ministry’s budget was increased from about 15 million KM in 2022 to more than 22.8 million KM in 2025, while the Budget for 2026 planned almost 24 million KM. This growth made it possible to increase subsistence allowances, allocations for treatment and rehabilitation, employment and self-employment, housing, as well as educational support for the children of veterans.
– Our goal was not only to increase the budget, but to ensure that each stamp means concrete support and greater dignity for veterans and their families. The results we have today show that we have succeeded on that path – said the Minister of Veteran Affairs Adnan Sirovica.
The application of the new Law on supplementary rights of veterans and their family members further expanded the circle of beneficiaries and facilitated access to rights, which resulted in a historical maximum number of beneficiaries of subsistence allowances, health care, scholarships and one-time benefits.
Special attention is paid to the children of the defense population. In the previous years, the amounts of scholarships were significantly increased, as were the funds for the purchase of textbooks for primary and secondary school students.
– Investing in the education of children of defenders is a long-term commitment for us. This is an investment in their safer future, but also in the stability of the whole society – stressed Minister Sirovica.
In the past period, the Ministry also implemented important projects for the construction and completion of memorials to martyrs, including the Memorial in Župča (Breza), and the initiation of the construction of the Memorial at the location of Željezno Polje – Velika Mahnjača, which paid due respect to the heroes of the defense.
– Caring for the defense population is not only reflected in material rights, but also in the culture of memory and respect for those who gave the most for freedom – said Sirovica.
The achieved results confirm that the Ministry of Veteran Affairs ZDK in the period 2022-2025. achieved significant qualitative and quantitative progress, positioning itself as one of the key bearers of social stability and institutional support for the defense population in Canton.
