Former American Defense Minister and CIA Director Leon Panett commented on the recent American strikes to Iranian nuclear plants, pointing out that many too quickly brought conclusions about actual harm.
In the conversation for Sky News, Panetta warned that it takes more time to gain a clear picture of the consequences of the attack.
“It will take a few weeks before we develop an accurate damage level assessment. I really think it’s important that everyone takes a deep breath and let that process happen,” Panetta said.
The Administration of the US President Donald Trump faced criticisms after the media and intelligence sources questioned the claim that Iranian nuclear capacities were “destroyed” in the attacks.
Trump tried to challenge the reports that suggest that Iran managed to move part of their enriched uranium before attacking. White House spokeswoman Karolina Leavitt said today that “the United States has no indication that there was any uranium moved.”
Leon Panetta, however, believes that the “justified assumption” is that Iran still took steps to protect enriched uranium from destruction.
He added that it “initiates actual concerns” to make Iran to decide to renovate or even speed up his nuclear program with the aim of constructing nuclear weapons.
