Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni traveled on the White House on a meeting with the President Donald Trump, with the aim of alleviating tensions around the American tariffs on European goods and to position the bridge between Washington and Brussels.
Meloni is trying to find a balance between his political closeness with the President Trump and the obligations that he has towards European allies. These allies criticized Trump due to the increase in customs to European goods and because he excluded the European Union from Negotiations with Russia on the end of the war in Ukraine, reports Reuters.
Although the pressurized melon is at home to protect the export-oriented ITALIAN economy, which last year has made a trade surplus of 40 billion with the USA, it must also show that the interests of the whole block of 27 EU members.
The French government ministers warned the Italian leader could disrupt EU unity by going to Washington without coordination with the others, but the European Commission, who was responsible for the Trade Agreementary Agreement, welcomed Melona’s visit.
Trump sudden decision last week to pause most of the global customs reduced pressure on Melona, which means it will not be under pressure to return to the concrete agreement, but to create a favorable atmosphere for future agreement.
