The announcement states that Eta will lead Union until the end of the season. Until now, she was the coach of the junior team (U19) of the club from Berlin. Eta (34) replaced Štefan Baumgart as coach, who was fired yesterday after Union lost to Heidenheim (1:3) in the 29th round of the Bundesliga.
German media reports that Eta is the first woman to become the head coach of a men’s club in the history of the Bundesliga. Union is currently in 11th place in the Bundesliga table with 32 points.
“Given the difference in points at the bottom of the table, survival in the Bundesliga is not yet guaranteed. I am delighted that the club entrusted me with this challenging task.
One of the strengths of the Union has always been the ability to unite in such situations. I am convinced that with this team we will secure key points for survival in the Bundesliga,” Eta said, as reported by the club’s website.
